Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit For Life

Healthy Diet is a part of a healthy lifestyle and is the foundation of good health. It plays an important role in securing that we are free from any illnesses. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it helps protect against malnutrition in all its forms as well as defend the non-communicable diseases including diabetes, heart diseases, cancer and stroke.

Taking care of ourselves begins by eating a balanced diet; this means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

You can start by adding portions of fruits and vegetables in your daily meal serving. According to NHS (National Health Service), it is advised that we eat at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day.

There is evidence that people who eat at least five portions a day have a lower risk of developing heart diseases, stroke and some cancers. Having a sliced of banana with your morning cereal (whole grain) is a quick way to get one portion done. Just one apple, avocado, pear or similar-sized fruit (80g) or a slice of pineapple or melon is one portion.

A variety of other healthy food choices are whole grain, root crops, low fat milk, lean meats, fish, egg, beans and nuts.

Why now start today? It will never too late to begin eating healthy.
